Boys cross country wins Providence Mini-Invitational; girls place second

In unusually warm weather for late September, the JHS cross country teams put together one of their best performances of the season.

The boys team sealed a victory in Tuesday’s Providence Mini-Invitational, beating three other teams. Senior Allen Pettis won the event in a time of 17:59, his first win of the cross country season. Seniors Brennan Schansberg and Kyle Sanders finished in third and fourth, respectively.

As for the girls, the finished second to Louisville Mercy in their race at Community Park. The team was led by senior Haley Nichols, whose time of 22:28 earned her a third place finish overall. Junior Rocio Lozada finished sixth, sophomore Kiersten Poor finished tenth, and senior Taylor Wooten was 13th.

Both cross country teams will travel to Columbus East for the Hoosier Hills Conference Championship on Saturday.
