Wednesday - Sept 13th, 2023 - 12:00pm Jeffersonville, IN The Jeffersonville High School Athletics Department has announced Taylor Sykes as their next Girls Basketball Head Coach (Interim). The Jeffersonville High School graduate served as the Lady Red Devils JV head coach and varsity assistant coach during the 2022-23 season. Taylor was a four year varsity player for the Lady Devils and a 2016 grad. After her high school career, she attended Indiana University where she earned her bachelor's degree in accounting and business law. She went on to earn her master's degree in strategic finance from the Kelley School of Business. Taylor was very excited when asked how she feels about her new role, she said, “As a Red Devil Alumni this hits home for me. The same dedication, pride, and respect that I had for the Lady Red Devil’s program when I wore my jersey, I will carry with me into my new role as the Lady Red Devils Head Coach! To the coaches, players on my team, and all who supported me, thank you for your immense support! I am truly humbled and forever grateful! The change starts now!” JHS principal Pam Hall, a former Lady Red Devil standout herself, had this to say about Taylor. “We are thrilled to welcome Taylor Sykes as our new head coach. Taylor understands what it means to be a Lady Devil and she is committed to excellence in academics, athletics and the student-athlete experience. I am most excited for our current players. If you could have been in the room this morning when Coach Sykes was in front of them-- it was powerful.” JHS athletics director Larry Owens shared his thoughts on the hire. “Taylor enters her 5th year coaching girls basketball but don’t let her youth fool you. She is a great competitor, communicator and instructor who is hungry to continue to learn and grow in this role. Our student/athletes have great respect for her and I know they are excited as well. This is where Taylor’s heart is. We are lucky to have her and we are very excited to watch her lead our Lady Devils.” The first day of official practice will be Oct 16th. The Lady Red Devils will open the season at home against Castle at 1:30pm in William S. Johnson Arena.
