Boys Varsity Swimming · Boys Swimming Defeats Seymour in Dual Meet

Keith Gast – Jeffersonville High School Swim Coach

Seymour – Last season the Jeff Boy’s Swimming and Diving team graduated 7 seniors.  7 of the 13 athletes that scored points for the Red Devils at Sectionals/State last season.  Of those 7 seniors, 5 of them are now competing at the collegiate level – Zach Griffis at Transylvania University, Tyler Sariscany at Rose Hulman, Zach Daily at Franklin, Max Weidekamp at Bellarmine and T Martin at Indiana University.  T was All-State and All-American 14 times in his high school career.

So the question yesterday was how does a team recover from that kind of graduation loss?

The answer is –Jeff High Swimming and Diving doesn’t reload – we RESURFACE.

The boy’s team headed to rival Seymour and dominated the meet by winning 9 of the 12 events and outscoring the Owls 119-66.

Event champions included Evan Shive, Ben Doss, Michael Cain, Cameron Simcoe, Kevin Gast, Jacob Stacey, Grant Hawkins and Tommy Beimrohr.  Those are impressive wins, especially considering that only one of them (Evan Shive) is a senior.  The underclassmen stepped up and showed they are ready to carry on the tradition set by those seniors last year.

The best example of the night was the second event – the 200 Freestyle.  The Red Devils place 1st – 2nd and 3rd in the event with sophomores Kevin Gast and Grant Hawkins and freshman Stephen Cain.

Although the paper and coaches pre-season picks don’t have the boys picked to win the HHC or Sectional again, these guys have other plans.
