On Saturday, January 17, the Lady Red Devil Swimming and Diving team won the Hoosier Hills Conference title for the first time since 2006.
The Red Devils led from the beginning of the meet and never looked back. Seniors Elizabeth Browne and Kali Crace were joined by Freshman Caroline Elliott and Sophomore Adeline Dixon to win the 200 Medley Relay for the first win of the day, that was followed by Freshman Rachel Walker winning the 200 Free and Adeline Dixon winning the 200 IM.
The Devils won the 200 Free Relay with Adeline Dixon and Rachel Walker being joined by Sophomore Jacqueline Richard and Junior Amelia Blankenbeker and the Devils would finish the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay with Rachel, Jacqueline and Amelia being joined by Elizabeth Browne.
Rachel Walker added the 500 Free to give her 4 championships in 4 swims.
All together the Red Devils won 6 of the 12 events – but most impressively winning all 3 of the HHC relay events.
The difference on the day was the depth of the Red Devil team – while the girls won 3 individual events, all 12 girls that competed scored for the team.
Senior Amber Leininger – 4th in the 200 Free and 2nd in the 500 Free Junior Amelia Blankenbeker – 3rd in the 200 Free and 2nd in the 100 Free Adeline Dixon added a 3rd place in the 100 Breast to her IM championship Freshman Hallie Dixon – 3rd in the 200 IM and 3rd in the 500 Free Freshman Caroline Elliott – 6th in the 200 IM and 8th in the 100 Breast Senior Elizabeth Browne – 5th in the 50 Free and 5th in the 100 Back Sophomore Jacqueline Richard – 3rd in the 50 Free and 3rd in the 100 Free Freshman Danielle Royal – 11th in the 50 Free and 10th in the 100 Free Senior Lauren Kessinger – 2nd in Diving Sophomore Jade Keith – 12th in Diving Freshman Sydney Sansbury – 4th in the 100 Fly and 9th in the 100 Back Senior Kali Crace – 6th in the 100 Fly and 4th in the 100 Back Senior Yanna Martin – 8th in the 100 Fly and 9th in the 100 Breast
The girls host Columbus East on Saturday, January 24th then prepare for the Sectional prelims on Thursday, February 5th, followed by the Sectional Finals on Saturday, February 7. The Sectional will be held at Highland Hills Middle School.
