What a great night of track and field! The Devils were able to hold off the defending sectional champs, Silver Creek, in a very tightly contested meet. The Devils were able to win on outstanding performances by some older athletes and some new faces too. Tony Cappola set a new sectional record in the pole vault @ 15 ft 6 in., Victor Dailey won the high jump with a 6 ft 6 in jump, and Dayna Overton continued his winning ways in the shot put throwing 52 ft 11 inches. Bailey Hecker ran a great race in the 800 defeating Matthew Bottorff, a friend and rival. Newcomers to the winners’ circle for Jeff this year include two young sprinters named Isaac Findley and Karder Thornton who finished 1st and 2nd in the 200 dash. They were also big in the 400 relay win along with Johnny Beemer and Tyrell Spalding. Tyrell came in for an injured Jacoby Haynes and ran the best race of his life! Allen Pettis won the 400 dash in a great dual with Johnny Beemer.
The results are attached and you will see a number of unsung heroes like Nick Smigel, Will Simpson, Jordan Barnett, Kameron Hecker, and others who scored points that made the difference in the evening. Perhaps the highlight of the evening was the 1600 relay (Beemer, Hecker, Pettis, Findley) in which the Devils led wire-to-wire with an anchor run by Isaac Findley that blew everyone away and capped the victory for the Devils.
The boys will move on to the Bloomington North Regional next Thursday.
