Boys Varsity Football · Brandon ‘Beef’ Wellington commits to Louisville as preferred walk-on

A Jeffersonville High School – Louisville Cardinal pipeline is alive and well, if the last two seasons are any indication.

One season after former Red Devil defensive end Dayna Overton committed to head coach Bobby Petrino and the University of Louisville, current JHS senior Brandon ‘Beef’ Wellington will become the second former Jeff player to suit up for UofL in as many years, joining the team as a preferred walk-on in the Fall.

“We are extremely proud of Beef,” said head coach Alfonzo Browning. “He is a very intelligent young man that has earned an opportunity to attend UL and compete in the ACC. UL has been one of his favorite colleges since he can remember. We are very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of his journey for the last 4 years and excited to see what the future holds for him.”

As a senior, Wellington saw time on both sides of the ball. The 6-4, 270-pound senior helped anchor the defensive line as a defensive tackle, his primary position. He also took snaps as a tackle and guard along the offensive line, as well.

According to his recruiting profile, Wellington runs a 5.4 40-yard dash. He also touts a bench press max of 255 pounds, and a squat of 405 pounds. But despite the solid statistics, Browning says Wellington is an even better person off the field.

“Brandon has been an Honor Student his time here at Jeff and has represented himself extremely well on and off the field,” Browning said. “He is the model of a student/athlete that we would like all of our football players to resemble.”
