Red Devils Open Season Under the Spotlight at Franklin’s “Rage on the Stage”

Friday night, both the Jeffersonville boys and girls wrestling teams stepped into one of Indiana’s most electric atmospheres as they traveled to Franklin Community High School for the annual Rage on the Stage. Complete with a fog machine, disco lights, a DJ, and a full arena announcer, the event once again lived up to its reputation as one of the premier dual-meet experiences in the state. The Red Devil girls kicked off the action against the No. 3–ranked Franklin Grizzly Cubs and delivered several bright moments. Jeffersonville secured wins from Abril Andres, Abi Lemon, Justise Clubb-Leon, Yarely Solis, and Fatima Carillo—four of those coming by pin. Despite the strong individual performances, the girls ultimately fell 30–48. Coach Joe Somerville praised the squad’s effort, saying he was proud of how hard they battled against one of the toughest teams in Indiana. On the boys side, Jeffersonville’s youthful roster—described by Coach Struck as the youngest team he has placed on the mat in 24 years—faced a steep challenge against the No. 7 Grizzly Cubs. Franklin featured wrestlers ranked No. 2, 3, 13, 15, 18, and 19 in the state, and their experience showed as the Red Devils dropped the dual 0–78. “This was a tough wake-up call for our young team,” Struck said. “We started the season with an extremely tough and well-coached opponent. I kind of warned them this was coming. But now this young group gets to see where they want to be one day—right off the bat.” Jeffersonville won’t have to wait long to bounce back. On Saturday, the Red Devil girls head to the 16-team Mooresville Duals, while the varsity boys travel to the always-competitive Capitol City Classic. The JV boys will compete at Jennings County. “We pride ourselves on wrestling the best teams we can find,” Struck added. “It has always worked for us, and it will continue to. This is just part of a young team’s journey.”
