Red Devils Boys Battle at the Turkey Tussle, Split with Corydon and Scottsburg

The Jeffersonville boys wrestling team continued to show grit and growth at this year’s Turkey Tussle, earning a strong win over Scottsburg while dropping a tough matchup to a seasoned Corydon Central squad. With a lineup full of young athletes, the Red Devils are proving that effort, attitude, and daily improvements will pay off—this team is on the rise, and the upswing is coming as long as they don’t quit. Dual vs. Corydon Central Jeff fell to Corydon, but several Devils turned in impressive performances and fought hard in every position. Jeff Winners vs. Corydon 106 – Kyree Turvey (Fr.) pinned Nikolai Quick in just 30 seconds, showing lightning-fast pressure and maturity beyond his grade level. 285 – Gavin Grisham (Sr.) earned a fall at 4:00, using veteran strength and control. 165 – Jaylen Howard (So.) looked sharp in a 15–7 major decision, setting the tone with nonstop offense. 144 – Rodolfo Olvera (Jr.) battled to a fall at 3:36, giving Jeff momentum in the middle weights. 132 – John Steele (So.) added another pin for the Devils at 1:19, continuing his strong start to the season. Despite the loss, the match was filled with growth moments for the young squad—including multiple first-year varsity wrestlers getting tough reps against seniors and upperclassmen. Dual vs. Scottsburg The Red Devils stormed back in the second dual, dominating Scottsburg from start to finish with a flurry of pins and aggressive team energy. Jeff Winners vs. Scottsburg 106 – Kyree Turvey (Fr.) won by forfeit. 285 – Gavin Grisham (Sr.) pinned his opponent in 45 seconds, his second fall of the night. 215 – James Dyer (Sr.) powered through with a pin in 40 seconds. 190 – Sire Minggia (Jr.) secured a fall at 2:04, showing big improvements in his top game. 175 – Jak Rose (Jr.) won by forfeit. 165 – Jaylen Howard (So.) continued his dominant night with a 18-second pin—one of the fastest falls of the event. 157 – Quintin Smith (Sr.) earned a fall at 2:45. 150 – Isaiah Gatton (Jr.) scored a pin in 1:52. 144 – Rodolfo Olvera (Jr.) won by forfeit. 138 – Elijah Lahrman (Jr.) won by forfeit. 132 – John Steele (So.) closed the dual with a fall at 2:31. The win showcased the team’s depth, conditioning, and continued belief in the program’s growth.
