Lady Red Devils Shine at Weekend Event, Led by Hard Work and Determination The Jeffersonville girls wrestling team continued building momentum this weekend with strong performances across the board. Several athletes brought home medals, multiple girls went undefeated, and even those with just one win showed tremendous fight and growth. Head Coach Joe Somerville praised the group’s effort, saying, “These girls show up every day ready to work. They don’t complain, they don’t make excuses—they just grind. That’s why they keep improving. Their attitudes are incredible, and their effort is even better.” Undefeated Champions & Standout Winners Yarely Solis (2–0) dominated the 173.2–186.2 class, pinning both opponents in under 90 seconds each. Her combination of strength and confidence continues to make her one of the most dangerous upperweights in the region. Abril Andes (1–0) opened her day with a strong fall over Penelope Silcott of BNL. Even though she later faced teammate Abi Lemon, her early pin secured valuable team points and showcased her senior leadership. Fatima Carrillo (1–0) stayed perfect with a rapid first-period pin in Round 1, controlling every second of her match. Her poise as a freshman is remarkable, and she continues to impress the coaching staff. Isabella Stewart (1–0) wasted no time, earning a fall in just 53 seconds in the opening round. Her third-place finish came from consistent, composed wrestling. Athletes Battling Hard With Singles Wins Some girls earned just one win on the day, but those victories were meaningful—and in several cases, they represented major steps forward. Tarajee Diaz (1–0) opened the tournament with a strong pin in 1:21. She continues to show she can compete with anyone when she’s aggressive and focused. Chloe Fischer (1–1) fought through a tough draw and still battled back to earn a win by forfeit. Her willingness to step up and keep competing is exactly what this team needs. Abi Lemon (0–1 today) doesn’t show up in the win column for the day’s first matchup, but her 5–4 season record shows her consistency and grit. Even when matching up against teammates, she competes with heart and leadership. Queen Munezero, Valeria Ramirez, and Alia Griffith each faced incredibly tough brackets but continued to wrestle with heart. They show up, they battle, and they’re learning every time they step on the mat—exactly what Coach Somerville wants from developing athletes. A Team Built on Effort Coach Somerville summed up the spirit of the team best: “Wins are great, but what I’m most proud of is their fight. Every girl out there is improving because she refuses to quit. That’s what builds a strong program.” With multiple medalists, several undefeated performances, and continued growth from the newer wrestlers, the Lady Red Devils left the event with plenty to be proud of—and even more to build on. The future looks bright for this hardworking, relentless group.
