As the Jeffersonville girls wrestling team prepares for the Jeff Classic and the upcoming sectional tournament, the Red Devils turned in yet another outstanding performance against a strong field that included Borden, Bloomington North, Brown County, Indian Creek, Jennings County, Madison, Seven Oaks, Scottsburg, South Dearborn, and Silver Creek. Leading the way were the undefeated wrestlers, highlighted by Fatima Carillo, who went 3–0 on the day and showed tremendous heart by battling back from a 7–0 deficit to earn a comeback victory. Abi Lemon delivered some of the most gritty and guttural performances of the meet, also finishing 3–0, while Scarlett McRae continued her steady improvement year after year and meet after meet, closing the day undefeated at 3–0. Newcomers Yarely Solis and A’sia Griffith also made their mark, each picking up multiple wins and gaining valuable experience as the team continues to build depth heading into the postseason. Girls head coach Joe Somerville praised the group’s toughness and growth, saying, “This team just keeps responding. They fight through adversity, they trust the process, and they’re starting to believe in how good they can be when it matters most.” Program director Danny Struck echoed that sentiment, adding, “What stands out is the culture—these girls compete hard, support each other, and keep getting better every time they step on the mat. That’s exactly where you want to be heading into the Jeff Classic and sectionals.” With momentum building and confidence growing, the Red Devils continue to show they are peaking at the right time as postseason competition approaches.
