After winning the Hoosier Hills Conference title over Floyd Central just a week earlier, Jeffersonville knew the sectional tournament was going to be a battle from start to finish. That proved true as the Red Devils finished second overall as a team, placing just behind Floyd Central while finishing ahead of Madison Consolidated and Jennings County — both recent sectional champions. Final Team Standings (Girls Sectional): Floyd Central – 204.5 pts Jeffersonville – 154.5 pts Madison Consolidated – 139 pts South Dearborn – 119 pts Jennings County – 113.5 pts Switzerland County – 106 pts Charlestown – 62 pts Silver Creek – 62 pts New Albany – 46 pts Corydon Central – 39 pts Borden – 36 pts North Harrison – 28 pts Henryville – 24 pts Crawford County – 20 pts Scottsburg – 7 pts Clarksville Jeffersonville crowned multiple regional qualifiers and put together a strong all-around performance against one of the deepest fields in the state. Special congratulations go to the top four place winners who punched their tickets to the Bloomington South Regional: Levi Evans (105) – Sectional Champion Abi Lemon (125) – Runner-up Yarely Solis (190) – Runner-up Fatima Carrillo (120) – 3rd Place Scarlett McRae (145) – 3rd Place Alia Griffith (155) – 4th Place “These athletes competed with confidence and toughness in a very deep sectional,” said Joe Somerville, Head Girls Wrestling Coach. “After winning conference, we knew this tournament would test us. Our kids showed grit, composure, and belief in each other all day long.” One of the most meaningful performances of the tournament came from senior Abril Andes, who battled back to earn 5th place at 135 pounds. While she narrowly missed regional qualification, her impact on the program extends far beyond the bracket. “Abril has been the heart of this team,” said Danny Struck, Jeffersonville Wrestling Program Director. “She gave everything she had to this program — her leadership, her athletic ability, and her example. She helped build the culture we have today, and her influence will be felt long after her final match.” With a young roster and many underclassmen gaining critical postseason experience, the future of Jeffersonville girls wrestling remains bright. “We’re young, but that’s exciting,” Somerville added. “This offseason is huge for us. If our underclassmen commit to the work in the weight room, on the mat, and mentally, we believe we can take the next step and be right back here next year competing for a sectional championship.” With strong leadership, a growing foundation, and momentum carrying into the offseason, Jeffersonville wrestling continues to move forward — proud of this season’s accomplishments and hungry for more in the year ahead.
