By Danny Struck | Jan 13, 2024 12:05 PM

Following a commendable top 11 finish for the girls' team at the state finals in Kokomo, the resilient Red Devil coaching staff displayed unwavering dedication. Despite arriving home at 12:30 am, they rose again at 4:45 am to guide the boys' team to Seymour for the Hoosier Hills Conference tourney. While this year's tourney lacked a champion for the Red Devils, their third-place finish showcased outstanding performance, trailing behind 3A state champions Floyd Central High School and the state runners-up, Columbus East High School. Although the absence of individual champions may have fallen short of expectations, the Red Devils achieved their primary goal of a top-three finish. The team also aspired to be among the top two in "most pins in the least amount of time" and took pride in the state's "largest seed-place difference." Coach Struck emphasized the team's continual improvement, stating, "Each week our goal is to 'get our seed or higher,' and today our guys had the largest seed-place difference of any team there. Which means they are still improving and believing in themselves." While lacking a champion, the Red Devils demonstrated remarkable balance, with every team member securing placements between 3rd and 5th. This collective effort underscored the team's unity and each member's contribution to the overall score. The final standings reflected Columbus East taking the top spot, followed by Floyd Central and Jeffersonville securing a commendable third place. Other notable team finishes included Jennings County (4th place), New Albany (5th place), Seymour (6th place), and Bedford (7th place), showcasing the competitive landscape. Individual accolades shone brightly for Jeffersonville, with impressive performances across weight classes: - 107 - Berry: 4th place - 114 - Maverick: 5th place - 120 - Stellato: 3rd place - 126 - Stivers: 4th place - 132 - Northern: 4th place - 138 - Slaughter: 4th place - 144 - Santos: 5th place - 150 - Smith: 5th place - 157 - Carillo: 3rd place - 160 - Hobbs: 4th place - 175 - Williams: 5th place - 190 - Shewmaker: defaulted to 5th place - 215 - Grisham: 5th place - 285 - Land: 3rd place Looking ahead, the Red Devils gear up for their final meet of the year at New Albany this Thursday, aiming to conclude the season on a high note.
