In the culmination of the season, the much-anticipated program-building match unfolded between New Albany and Jeffersonville. Both teams showcased their strengths in a dynamic clash involving four middle schools. Jeffersonville grappled with New Albany's varsity and JV teams, while Jeff's middle schools, Parkview and River Velly, faced off against New Albany's Scribner and Hazelwood. Initiated over a decade ago, this tradition holds significant value, with middle school coaches who were once new to coaching now being proud JHS Alumni, leading and inspiring the community to embrace coaching. The latest match concluded with an exhilarating 40-28 victory for Jeffersonville. The tension was palpable as New Albany and Jeff Veach secured third and fourth positions in the Hoosier Hills conference the previous weekend. Standout winners included junior Aidan Stellato, senior John Stivers, senior Dawson Slaughter, junior Isa Santos, junior Maltie Zilling, sophomore James Dyer, sophomore Gavin Grisham, and junior Ben Land, who achieved the quickest pin of the night at 285 pounds. Beyond the excitement of Jeffersonville's high school team securing their 13th victory, the night held additional triumphs. River Velly maintained an unblemished record, triumphing over Scribner and Hazelwood, while Parkview achieved a 1-1 result, securing a win over Hazelwood. Jeffersonville concluded one of its most challenging competitive seasons with a 13-9 record, facing formidable opponents ranked in the top 20, with eight of them in the top 10. Coach Struck expressed immense pride, emphasizing the philosophy of setting the toughest schedule to foster growth and resilience. "I am super proud of our kids," said Coach Struck. "We always set the hardest possible schedule we can, never worrying about wins or losses of the team. I play with the kids, saying my goal is to find someone to beat you, and your goal is to try to beat everyone I put out there. They understand that competing against the best is the way for them to achieve their goals, whether by the end of the season or somewhere else in life. Competition is always important to moving forward." This commitment to competition extends across all levels of the program, with the varsity B team, led by former Jeffersonville wrestler Nick Stewart, concluding a commendable nine and seven season, versus all varsity teams! Looking ahead, the varsity team is set to participate in the Parkview Invitational, engaging with incoming eighth graders and participating in a tournament. Simultaneously, both varsity and JV teams will test their mettle at the Kentucky Capital City Classic at Frankfurt High School, preparing for up to 32 other varsity teams and gearing up for the next season. The regular season concludes with the Jeffersonville sectionals at home, setting the stage for the state tournament opening next weekend.
