Lady Devils Undefeated at Home

The Jeffersonville Lady Red Devils (12-9) faced the Scottsburg Lady Warriorettes (19-2) on January 23 at Johnson Arena. The last game of the regular season it was important for the Lady Devils to come out strong, with Sectionals beginning next week. They did just that. The Lady Red Devils ended the first quarter out scoring the Warriorettes 25-14. Senior Lakyra Johnson scoring 13 of the teams 25. The second quarter was no different, the Lady Devils really playing spectacular defense and being able to outscore the Warriorettes 16-8. The Lady Devils played their best half of basketball all season and the score showed. Leading 41-22 at the half. To start the second half Scottsburg knew they had to go on a run, although scoring 13 in the third frame the Lady Devils were able to stay on top leading 53-35 going into the fourth quarter. Coach Taylor Sykes emphasized to the girls they needed to be able to play 36 good minutes in tonight’s match up. The fourth quarter the Lady Devils were able to close out with the final score 66-47. The Lady Devils were led by Senior Lakyra Johnson who had a career high of 27 points. Followed by Elle Marble who had 12. Other Scorers: Keziah Renee’ (9 points) Amiya Calloway (7 points) Kiya Boatwright (5 points) Tyanna Horsman (2 points) Avalynn Scott (2 points) LaQaya Gold (2 points) The Devils finished their regular season 13-9. Being undefeated and 7-0 at home. The Lady Devils will face the winner of Jennings County and Seymour next Friday at Floyd Central in 2nd round of Sectionals.
