The cool morning air greets a steady stream of athletes making their way to the weight room at 6:15 a.m. on a Monday. Wrestlers and swimmers are the usual faces, but athletes from all sports walk through the doors, drawn by a shared belief: “Strength transcends sport.” Inside, the atmosphere is electric. Coaches move between stations as athletes shift from power cleans to kettlebell swings, each movement echoing the essence of Jeff sports performance—building complete athletes. The mix of Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and CrossFit-style training is a well-oiled machine, honed over years of success. This is no ordinary workout. Every rep and every drop of sweat speaks to the legacy of excellence that has come from this very room. Over 200 athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, and a handful have even reached the pinnacle of professional sports. From bowl rings to All-American honors, Jeff athletes carry the weight of this tradition on their shoulders. As Logan Bingham, now at Middle Tennessee State, once said, “I felt really prepared from class—we do a ton of stuff with resistance bands and mobility work. There’s no lift I hadn’t already learned.” Dawson Slaughter, now a freshman wide receiver at Franklin College, echoes this sentiment, recounting how he’s had to help his fellow freshmen with power clean form. “I’ve already been taught, and it’s been great!” Tim Martin, a former All-State swimmer and IU standout, stands as another testament to the program. “When I got to IU, I was the only freshman they allowed to advance to the older groups—I was ahead on all the lifting techniques.” As the athletes push through their morning routines, they’re not just building muscle; they’re carrying forward a legacy. Success breeds success. This room doesn’t just create stronger athletes, it builds champions across all sports. For anyone looking to be part of that tradition, the door is always open at 6:15 a.m.
