Lady Red Devils Dominate in First IHSAA Girls Wrestling Home Event of the Season Jeffersonville High School hosted its first-ever IHSAA girls’ home wrestling event, welcoming teams from North Harrison, Jasper, New Washington, Charlestown, Castle, and Henryville. The day was filled with intense matches, marking an impressive start to the season for the Lady Red Devils. The event opened with Jeffersonville facing off against Jasper in a dual meet, an established program with tough competitors. Jeffersonville came out on top with a 45-30 victory, bringing their dual team record to 2-1 on the season. Following this win, the event transitioned to a round-robin format, providing each wrestler with two to four matches to gain valuable experience and add victories to their season totals. Several Lady Red Devils delivered standout performances, with Abi Lemon, Aubrey Cummings, Ava Steffey, Envy Diaz, and returning state bronze medalist Kaylea Beauchamp remaining undefeated on the day. Head Coach Coach Somerville was thrilled with the girls’ performance, emphasizing their fighting spirit and unwavering support for one another. Coach Struck also praised the team’s efforts, noting the importance of their early-season matches as preparation for next week’s meet against Franklin, a rising powerhouse in girls’ wrestling. Among the highlights was Scarlett McRae’s impressive effort, earning one pin and, despite a loss, scoring 10 points, showcasing substantial growth from last season. Another memorable win came from Justice Cobb, who earned her first career victory with a first-period pin after having to forfeit her previous match due to nerves. While the Lady Red Devils battled through their matches, Jeffersonville’s boys’ team also held an intrasquad Red and White scrimmage, giving coaches a chance to assess lineups for the season. With eyes set on their November 20 matchup against Franklin, the Lady Red Devils are practicing hard and eager to continue building on their success.
