The Lady Red Devils made history by participating in the inaugural Hoosier Hills Conference Championship for women’s wrestling and delivered an outstanding performance. Kaylea Beauchamp claimed the 135-pound championship title, marking a first in Hoosier Hills Conference history, IHSAA history, and Jeffersonville High School history. A third-place finisher at last year’s IHSWGA state finals, Kaylea is striving toward becoming Jeffersonville’s first-ever IHSAA girls’ state champion, and this victory is a significant milestone in her journey. Kaylea’s success is a testament to her relentless dedication, which included participating in the Manchester Women’s Duels, Fargo Nationals in North Dakota, and the Chattanooga Team Camp over the summer. That hard work is clearly paying off! Multisport athlete Aubrey Cummings just came off a fantastic soccer season and jumps right into wrestling taking runner up at the Hoosier Hills conference. “Our Aubrey competes and everything she does whether it’s soccer wrestling or trying to beat Coach Struck and how many books they read a year Aubrey is a winner!” Conference runner-up is considered Hoosier Hills conference, honorable mention, and other sports, adding to Aubrey’s list of accolades, including two state finalist Coach Somerville guided a team of 15 Lady Red Devils to Jennings County High School for the historic event, with most wrestlers securing top-four finishes in their respective weight classes. The team showed resilience and determination throughout the day, highlighted by strong performances: • Justice, Venus, Danielle, Abril, Kristen, and Scarlet: 3rd place • PJ and Abi: 4th place The team finished 4th overall, narrowly missing 3rd place by just one point behind Seymour. Columbus East claimed the team title, with Jennings County finishing as the runner-up. The Lady Red Devils are now preparing for their next challenge at the Derby City Classic next weekend. Congratulations to the team for their historic achievements, and best of luck in the next competition!
