Red Devil Softball grabs 5th inning lead to defeat Lanesville

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils snagged a late lead and defeated Lanesville Varsity Eagles 9-5 on Tuesday. The game was tied at five with Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils batting in the bottom of the fifth when Emma Eaton drew a walk, scoring one run. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils earned the victory despite allowing Lanesville Varsity Eagles to score three runs in the third inning. Izzie Rawlings, Brooklyn Albers, and Lauryn Safstrom all drove in runs in the frame. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils fired up the offense in the first inning. Eaton drove in three when Eaton homered. Bailey Shafer was the winning pitcher for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Shafer allowed nine hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out three. Morgan Sonner was on the rubber for Lanesville Varsity Eagles. The righthander surrendered five runs on five hits over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Makenna Mills threw two innings out of the bullpen. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils tallied two home runs on the day. Ally Young had a homer in the fifth inning. Eaton went deep in the first inning. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Brookelyn Miles, Aubrey Cannon, and Young each collected multiple hits for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Miles led Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils with three hits in four at bats. Ellie Schneider went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Lanesville Varsity Eagles in hits.
